Generally:
- By 4-6 weeks of age, most infants will follow a light or large objects
- By 3 months, they should be able to fix on an object and follow it over a wide range. Look for abnormal eye turns
- By 2-3 years, most children are able to verbally identify pictures on an eye chart
Signs to watch for:
- Child is frequently blinking, squinting or rubbing eyes
- Child closes or covers one eye and/or tilts head
- Child complains of headaches during and/or after school
- Sitting very close to computer screen or television; holds books very close
- Feels dizzy or nauseous with close work
- Trouble reading/copying notes from the blackboard at school
